Public Safety

The mini传媒 Public Safety Department has a well鈥搕rained and courteous non鈥揷ommissioned staff, which provides personal safety, security, crime prevention, preliminary investigations, and other services to the campus community.

The staff is comprised of the Director, Sergeant, Emergency Communications Officer, seven full鈥搕ime Officers and two part鈥搕ime Officers. All of the staff has received training in basic CPR and emergency response for major incidents.

The mini传媒 Public Safety Department acts as the first responder for all criminal incidents, provides general patrol of campus facilities and property, investigates collisions and manages traffic safety and parking, coordinates emergency management planning, and provides crime prevention programs. The department responds to all reports of fire and/or medical aid working in support of the mini传媒 Fire Department.

What We Do

The mini传媒 Public Safety Officers do not have arrest authority, but they work closely with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. Public Safety Officers have the authority to ask persons for identification and determine if the individual has lawful business on Campus property.

The Public Safety Department maintains a professional working relationship with the mini传媒 Police Department (SPD), which has jurisdiction on the Campus; all criminal incidents are referred to the mini传媒 Police Department for investigations and follow鈥搖p. All crime victims and witnesses are strongly encouraged to immediately report any crime to mini传媒 Security Department and the appropriate law enforcement agency.

Prompt reporting will assure timely warning notices on鈥揷ampus and timely disclosure of crime statistics.

Jurisdiction

mini传媒 Public Safety Officers have authority to enforce all traffic codes of RCW title 46, the City of mini传媒 traffic code, and the mini传媒 Colleges District rules and regulations on all property leased, rented, and owned by mini传媒. This includes all areas of the Main, Wood Technology Center, and the mini传媒 Maritime Campus as well as any additional property leased, rented, or owned by mini传媒.

mini传媒 Police Department

The mini传媒 Police Department has law enforcement jurisdiction on all mini传媒 property. All crimes, arrests, or reportable incidents are forwarded on to a sworn Police Officer with the mini传媒 Police Department.

The King County Sheriff's Office

The King County Sheriff's Office has law enforcement secondary jurisdiction on all mini传媒 property. As a standard practice, the Sheriff's Office does not respond to campus property unless needed for emergency assistance and called by the mini传媒 Police Department, or for self initiated activity by a King County Sheriff's Office deputy.

Washington State Patrol

The Washington State Patrol has law enforcement secondary jurisdiction on mini传媒 property. As a standard practice, the Washington State Patrol does not respond to campus property unless needed for emergency assistance and called by the mini传媒 Police Department, or for self initiated activity by a Washington State Patrol Trooper.
